6 Crafts Ideas for Your Kids
When they return from school, your children are often exhausted and thinking about one thing only: having some fun. Crafts can be an interesting activity for them not only because it’s fun, but because it makes use of their creativity and stimulates their imagination. Here are a few ideas for crafts to work on at home.
1. Create crafts for a particular theme
Buy some cardboard, scissors, glue, and crayons. Then, have your children design crafts for a specific theme, such as spring or animals. If need be, show them a few pictures on the Internet to help them find some inspiration.
2. Design a character
One good way to stimulate your children’s imagination is to ask them to design a character by drawing it or modelling it in clay, for example. It can be one of their favourite Disney characters or a creature they think up by themselves – the important thing is to encourage them to express themselves through the character design.
3. Create a scrapbook
Why not offer your kid a scrapbook to keep fond memories of being with friends and family in a format similar to a photo album but allowing the child to write comments and notes on the margin, decorating as he or she pleases. Satisfaction guaranteed.
4. Pack make-believe gifts
Buy small cardboard boxes for your children to wrap papier-mâché or gift wrap. Then, stack the gifts, having fun with building a gift pyramid.
5. Create a smash book
A smash book is not necessarily as pretty and ordered as a scrapbook. Instead, it offers a mix of photos, memorabilia, concert tickets, quotes, and any other items your kid cherishes. All of this is jumbled up and messy, which is why it’s called a smash book. Some companies sell smash book sets; buy one of these or help your kid design their own smash book using available materials.
6. Decorate the crayons
Another great way to develop your children’s creativity is to offer them the opportunity to decorate pencils or crayons with such accessories as adhesive tape for wooden pencils, for example. You can bet that once they have their own personalized pencils, they will never see writing and math the same as before.
